Antique matched set of Italian carved polychrome putti, or cherubs.
Unmarked, but is the traditional carved, painted and gilt style that is instantly identifiable as an vintage Italian ornament.
Has wear, as shown, as these pieces always do, and someone added eye hooks to the backs at some point. There is some dirt in the crevices which I mainly brushed off, but the finer details I leave to the buyer.
Putti, or Putto, are companions of Cupid, the god of love. Known to be fiercely protective and resilient, they are personifications of human emotion, of which love is one. They are always male, and the name "putto" (Putti, PL) means "boy" in Italian. They are, essentially, "Baby Angels."
What a wonderful and symbolic gift for new parents, or as nursery decor in your Renaissance nursery!
