This bag also appears in the 1940s American movie "Twelve O'Clock High" starring Gregory Peck.

In the movie "Saving Private Ryan," the tough sergeant casually put a can filled with Normandy sand in it. It's that bag.

Of course, it can be used as a shoulder bag, but it can also be used as a backpack by using the two straps on the back and attaching them to the D-rings of suspenders.
There are pockets on the sides that open and close with buttons with flaps.
