This is a rare find nearly antique serving plate or cake plate from the Hotta Yu Shoten & Co. pottery of Japan. The mark is an H inside a cherry blossom. The company handpainted and fired its wares in their own kiln but closed in 1947. This plate is very beautiful, it has many luminescent colors in the light and the hand painting is very nice though the edges do show brush strokes over the edges of the plate which I think adds to it’s charm. The flowers are very unique as well as three have blue petals and the fourth has gold petals which must show some symbolism. There are a few utensil marks (scratches) please see pictures as I tried to capture those in the photos. This is truly a work of art and a piece Japanese history. Thanks for looking !
