This is a beautiful and rare tribal carved shell pendant framed in what I believe to be brass. The stones in the center looks like it is red jade. It is currently strung on black cord, but it can easily be transferred to a chain.
It's very difficult to find NAGA pendants with this design today. This piece is vintage and possibly antique.
It was handcrafted by the tribal people living in Nagaland (Northeast India bordering Burma / Myanmar) and represents a stylized warrior with a red stone in the center.
Ornaments are very important to the Nagas, because besides fulfilling decorative needs, they serve to distinguish the warrior and commoner classes.
