Aleena is an endangered Asian elephant who was born on May 6, 2004. She was 14 yrs old when she painted this picture, and she loves to paint many different pictures of flowers. Aleena is the royal elephant of the Princess of Thailand, Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana. She and the princess share the same birthday.
Throughout history, elephants have been revered by the Thai people and remain a permanent symbol of their culture. The Asian elephant population has significantly declined due to habitat loss and agricultural mechanization. Regrettably, these beautiful animals are now on the endangered species list. As we learned from the extinction of the Passenger Pigeon, an immediate and honest conservation effort must be made to defend the Asian elephant against its extinction.
